Given the opportunity, how will you direct the inevitable change?
The essence of this card is to ask not only what you will make of the opportunities for change but to also challenge you to see more broadly how many opportunities there are.
Change makes us uncomfortable. So much so that it is said “People don’t change.” Ah, wrong. Everything is changing all the time. Resisting change doesn’t stop it, it stops growth in the resistor.
Ego, our Knight in Shining Armor, who is intent on protecting us and not allowing our boat to rock, fends off the effects of change. Sometimes, this is a simple deflection with their shield, of an arrow of new thought. Sometimes, we sit in a row boat with our Knight in full and heavy regalia, standing over us, ready to jump to our aid as the Flow of all creation and destruction creates waves that, by their very nature, topple the Knight and threaten to capsize the boat we travel in.
Sometimes, when the opportunity for change is afoot, I command my Ego to sit in the bottom of the boat and I steer through choppy waters using a single oar as a rudder to navigate the Flow of all creation and destruction.
