Once you’ve delivered the gift of your participation, how do you release your expectations of what comes next?
I’m generally able to let go once I’ve delivered a gift, releasing whatever happens next into the Flow of all creation and destruction.
However, when the gift of my participation has been to lend a hand of support to a friend, a family member, or even a client, it can be a challenge to let go and allow the unfolding that follows. It’s a challenge because it feels like I have a stake in the outcome. I do not.
Being of service to others is a kindness that is not completely delivered until I let go of what results.
I’m honored to have raised four children to adulthood. Parenting is the intensive cycle of teaching, guiding, and holding the hand of our precious child, then letting go for a moment so they experience and practice their own agency.
Among my most challenging experiences was the letting go of each child as they reached adulthood and restraining myself from automatically grasping their hand again.
I am grateful today for the insight that when my participation is delivered and I let go, I am honoring the recipient and their right to self determination.
