How do you come to Know the Answer?

When faced with an important question, I collect information, to the extent that is possible. I assemble a case for each option and I consider the pros and cons of each to arrive at an answer.

Years ago, the wife of one of my dearest friends of all time died. After that precious person’s death, my friend cut off contact not just with me, but with all his friends. We have reached out and sent cards. I have tried to make contact through his nephews. Nothing. Although we are no longer in communication, I love him still. The answer is to leave him be. Maybe someday there’ll be another answer.

Sometimes, the “best case” is made through logical thought but does not ring true inside my being. Because I have come to respect my intuition as a partner to critical thinking, I can only know the answer when it is logically sound AND sits well within my emotional body. “Sits well” does not necessarily mean that it feels good.

Very often, the Answer is a challenge to my established beliefs, an answer that takes me down a new path. That can be unsettling and even scary. This is the road of self-cultivation, the path of becoming our true selves.
