Day 185 of 2021 and Day 2041 of her Daily Painting Practice.

What ceremony are you creating with your every act?

The color and texture of the clothing I select to wear set the tone of how I will show up in the day. Some days, I’m drawn to wear solid blue, True-Blue. I watch in my day for opportunities to be the truth-teller.

Yesterday, I chose a favorite soft old dress made of patchwork flannel. I bought this dress in 1995. I’ve patched the elbows and replaced several buttons. It is comfort. This grandmother dressed herself in memories — first of being a young mother and then of continuing to grow, even through today. This dress comforts me and reminds me of my journey.

Choosing my clothing every day is ceremony. What I wear affects my consciousness, my emotional state, and the way I show up in the world.
